Ladies there’s now scientific evidence that you should go back to bed.
Medical researchers have found evidence that women need more sleep than men. And before you get all predictable, it’s got nothing to do with beauty sleep.
The disparity in amound of sleep needed by gender is due to the effect it has on their work, according to the study.
Disrupted sleep patterns are more likely to affect women in the workplace than their male colleagues, experts revealed.
Females feel more tired, are unable to make as much effort and perform worse in cognitive tests requiring memory or accuracy if their regular bedtime routines are altered.
The results of the tests could have significant implications for female shiftworkers, as well as those travelling long distances that could lead to jetlag.
The study for the specialist journal PNAS was conducted jointly by the universities of Cambridge and Hull, the Surrey Sleep Research Centre and Dukes University in Singapore.
